In its "Olympia" section (September 2026), Hamburg sports magazine sporting portrays Peter Merck's commitment to the Olympics & Paralympics in Hamburg. After the Olympic referendum he invited the supporters to Golf Lounge Resort: representatives of the Olympic training centre, the Hamburg Sports Association, Team Hamburg, athletes, sports federations, friends and family. There was a barbecue buffet, and Reinhold Beckmann played as a singer-songwriter. Merck: "It goes on, let us join forces, let us stay in dialogue, work together even better and on good causes together." And: "You cannot only celebrate victories together, you also have to admit defeats together."
