Youth trains for Olympia
Golf Cup 2023 at Golf Lounge Moorfleet
An open competition for all golfers
Alongside the two tournaments held as part of “Jugend trainiert für Olympia” (Youth Trains for Olympia), the golf committee revived an open competition in which all golfers, from beginners to pros, could compete. Both gross and net scores were counted – based on the World Handicap Index. The format was a 2-player scramble, where teamwork and tactical agreement mattered. It all took place in perfect weather on our grounds at Golf Lounge Moorfleet.
The format has a clear advantage: in a 2-player scramble, the stronger players can take the beginners by the hand – without the score suffering. Those playing the best ball learn something with every hole; those with experience think strategically and take responsibility.

The results
- Gross win: Max and Johann from Gymnasium Hochrad won at 5 under par – an outstanding performance in the open field.
- Gross 2nd place: Moritz and Ben – also from Gymnasium Hochrad – close behind at 3 under par.
- Net win: Isabella and Sören from Otto-Hahn-Schule played more than 8 strokes below their course handicap in the first tournament of their lives and won the net competition.
“Eight strokes under handicap in your first tournament – that is what a perfect start in competitive golf looks like.”
Why this format should catch on
The open competition achieved exactly what “Jugend trainiert für Olympia” stands for: it gave beginners their first tournament success while offering experienced players a serious sporting challenge. This very mix – grassroots and top level in one format – is what we need to keep golf attractive for the next generation.
